There are many mixed messages in the world of literacy, it is hard to see what will not only create readers, but those who have a love for literacy.

Luminary Literacy seeks to provide insights on current reading research, practices for parents and educators, and ways to inspire a love of literacy. Our aim is to develop strong readers so each and every person has the opportunity to learn and pursue their best selves.

  • Training

    Luminary Literacy is on mission to empower educators and parents so that they can partner with us in cultivating readers who love literacy. We seek to encourage teachers as they are the ones who teach children, not programs or curriculums. Our lead presenter Betsy Alwine, will share how teachers approach their role creates the key to connecting students to their learning and a love of literacy.

    Our training services include supporting parents with basic literacy instructional knowledge to support their developing readers, to providing practical, yet in depth content on the Science of Reading for educators. Shedding light on what makes a true impact on literacy is the core of what we believe, and we seek to get this important information into the hands of those working with students .

  • Tutoring

    Looking to support your student’s reading skills with a tutor trained in the science of reading and ensure they pass high stakes testing? Luminary Literacy offers 1:1, 30 minute tutoring sessions, starting at $50.

    Students are first given a screener to develop a personalized intervention plan, looking at areas of phonemic awareness, phonics, morphology, and fluency. An individual report is provided to parents that can be shared with the student’s school and teachers.

  • Science of Reading Coach | Dyslexia Specialist | Literacy Consultant | Education Advocate | Tutor

    Betsy Alwine is a dedicated Science of Reading Coach and Dyslexia Specialist at Penn-Harris-Madison schools, with a passion for ensuring student success through research-based literacy instruction. Betsy has spent her career empowering educators and students alike.

    As a LETRS facilitator, she has trained over 275 educators in the Science of Reading and has played a key role in coaching educators how to apply research based instructional routines, and developing literacy interventions using evidence-based programs such as Wilson Fundations, Wilson Just Words, Heggerty Phonemic Awareness, and UFLI.

    Betsy has presented at The University of Notre Dame’s Literacy Symposium, the Indiana State Literacy Association, and the Northern Indiana Educational Service Center. She is known for her expertise in morphology instruction, structured literacy, and dyslexia intervention. She is committed to equipping educators with the tools to enhance reading outcomes and create joyful, mission-driven learning environments.
